The overall output quality for DCP-L2550DW, based on our tests, is below par for mono lasers, with average text, slightly substandard images, and photos below par. Even the average text for laser printers is good for any business use than those that require very small fonts.

The quality of the graphics is suitable for internal business use, including PowerPoint handouts, although it may not be intended for important clients. Some of the backgrounds appear to be somewhat faded, and I notice light lines (a vague pattern of scratches) in some illustrations, as well as dithering (graininess). You can print a recognizable image from a webpage, but that’s it.

The operating cost for DCP-L2550DW, based on the Brother’s number for consumables (toner and drum), reaches 3.5 cents per page. Both are the same operating costs found on Brother HL-L2395DW and Canon MF249dw.
